Meet Kristy: Your Curly Hair Champion, Hair Restoration Specialist, and Hair Loss Advocate
Kristy Wilson, the founder of Uptown Curl, is on a mission to transform the hair care experience. Her own journey with textured hair ignited her passion:
“Growing up with highly textured, curly hair I understand how it feels to be treated as an “other” in traditional salons. The first 25 years of my life were very influenced by the negative feelings I had about my hair. My hope is to help you love your curls and avoid the struggles that I experienced.”
From Personal Understanding to Professional Expertise
Kristy’s experiences fueled a desire to create a welcoming space for curly hair and those struggling with hair loss. Witnessing the impact hair loss can have on confidence, she deepened her expertise by obtaining a Hair Loss Practitioner Certification. This certification strengthens her commitment to providing comprehensive hair restoration solutions.
“Hair loss is really devastating. I have such empathy for those going through it,” Wilson says. “I want to help clients find solutions.”
In addition to her expertise in curly hair care, Kristy became a certified trichologist (hair loss treatment specialist). At her Stillwater Uptown Curl location, she offers follicle and scalp screenings, helping clients identify the root cause of their hair loss and find effective treatment options.
Understanding Hair Loss
“You have to figure out what the cause is before you can decide what the right solution is. If you cannot pinpoint the cause of the alopecia, anything that you do to regrow that hair, it’s just going to fall out again,” Wilson says.
Kristy emphasizes that hair loss can be a symptom of underlying health conditions: “Our hair, skin, and nails are sometimes the first symptom of internal illness or nutritional deficiency or hormone imbalance … So, [hair loss] is something that should be taken seriously.”
Kristy is also well-versed in the different types of alopecia and encourages those experiencing hair loss to seek guidance from a dermatologist or functional medicine doctor.

“Understanding that hair loss is very common and cyclical is a huge relief to people. I’ve seen positive results from various treatments, and the technology just keeps getting better.”
